KNXWLEDGE DO YOU

With a new album on its way in the spring, Knxwledge has just dropped a fantastically beatsy and melodic single 'Do You' on Stones Throw. The influential L.A hip-hop producer has worked with underground MCs like Joey Bada$$, a well as producing 'Mama' - a track from Kendrick's album To Pimp a Butterfly, and is also one half of the project NxWorries with vocalist Anderson Paak. 'Do you' is a mostly instrumental track, submerged in plenty of funky bass parts, robust piano chords and a catchy synth line. The beat is satisfyingly repetitive, allowing the listener to have certainty in their head-nod, until interrupted by sample of a guy talking about "people screaming" over his tape, which is then intersected by a wail that continues into a romantic, retro R&B sample. The track is both sparky and grandiose but wonderfully humdrum with the monotonous repetitions. 'Do You' is comforting, like feasting on your favourite meal, but cooked to perfection. We're all fired up for Knxwledge's new album to come in the spring. - Ellie Rose-Davies
